Making-of Aurion KGF: The movement counter not contented

The frenzy did not freeze us

It's finally Thursday!! Last week we were telling you about the frenzy gameplay, even if it was uncanny, it did not give us an underpay, our verve hadn’t gone at all on vacay (did you feel the spirit of Hemingway ??😎). Anyway, here's the rest of the story.

We understood that we had to "let the player control the pace of the game". To achieve this, we have been inspired by Call of Antia (that itself was inspired by Empire & Puzzles 😉)

We replaced the delay bar with “The enemy movement counter”:

  • Enemies wait until the hero has done a certain number of actions before acting.
  • The number of actions is written above the enemies.
  • The player can therefore take his time to make the best choices when he is in a critical situation, but he is also free to match the gems quickly if he wants.


After an accelerated coding phase, the testing phase had arrived and everyone was holding their breath. What was it going to give? We were about to find out (suspense music...)

5,10,15 minutes playing already, and the grip was good!

We had better control of the rhythm of the game, it was fluid, we got off on it ...but, yes, there was a "BUT".

WHAT WAS WRONG AGAIN!??

Counter not contented


  • Fights were ending too quickly, giving heroes no time to charge in and perform their special moves
  • This exaggerated speed diminished the feeling of strategy and made the game repetitive too quickly.
  • · And the most serious? It was that the enemies couldn't place a single attack and we won without any sense

Be hippic to get epic

Clearly the "movement counter" build had not kept all its promises, but we already hit a good vein there.

This failure hurt us less than the previous one, in fact, it even motivated us.

We were always running after time, it's true, but we had found our fast test speed and we "felt" the game.

We had to get back in the saddle and ride quickly but surely towards the ultimate and perfect Build...

Little did we know then how much the best and most difficult were yet to come...
